“Pushing the boundaries for Charity”

On Saturday 1st February, mark Newbold will be pushing Councillor Beverly Quinnel, the Madam Mayor of Bridgend, around the total length of her mayoral boundaries in her wheelchair, to raise money for this year Mayors Charity Appeal.

It was following the success of his marathon length power walk, in aid of the Tenovus Purple Ribbon Campaign, that recovering cancer patient, Mark Newbold was invited to help raise funds for this years Mayors Charity Appeal in aid of Tenovus and Age Concern, Bridgend.

The idea, a novel approach to fundraising, was Mark’s who explains, “Councillor Beverly Quinnell invited me to help because she was impressed with my drive and determination to raise awareness of Men’s Cancers”.

He continued, “38 year old Beverly spends most of her time in a wheelchair or on crutches after being involved in a road accident. In a way I wanted to prove that even if you are in a wheelchair you don’t have to sit on the side lines, you can really make a difference if you get out there and get involved.”

Councillor Quinnel chose the two charities last May, since then her father was diagnosed with the rare cancer non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and sadly died of the disease last August. “I have always supported cancer charities, but with my fathers recent death, it really brings home to you what good work Tenovus does. Apart from their pioneering work with breast cancer treatments and their many other research discoveries, Tenovus-Funded scientists and clinicians are also running clinical trials for the Worlds first anti-cancer vaccine for sufferers of non-hodgkins lymphoma.”

“And its not just cancer research that Tenovus funds, they also have a programmes of councelling, patient care and education plus the Tenovus Free Phone Cancer Help Line 0808 8081010. This is a free and confidential service staffed by Specialist Tenovus Oncology ( Cancer ) Nurses, which is available to anyone anywhere I n the UK with concerns about Cancer.”

On the day we raised about £1500 for the two charities.
